Fees to increase for county recycling

COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County residents will soon be receiving their property tax bills in the mail.

As part of the May installment, homeowners will pay a user fee for the county-wide recycling program.

However, this year the fee was increased from $42 to $53. Whitley County Solid Waste District Director Jorell Tucker said the cost increase is long overdue.

“We’ve discussed the need to raise rates for some time now,” Tucker said. “We pushed it off as long as we could, but now we don’t really have any other options.”
