FATAL CRASH: 1 dead, two injured in U.S. 30 crash

COLUMBIA CITY — The county’s first snow storm caused a fatal crash Wednesday night on U.S. 30.A New Jersey man was pronounced dead on the scene, and two more were taken to the hospital with leg and shoulder injuries.

John Knauer, 50, of Wenonah, N.J. died after he lost control of the SUV he was driving, rolling it several times. His passengers, John Knauer Jr., 31 and Daniel Nevius, 26, escaped with non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.

According to the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, Knauer passed another vehicle and was moving back into the driving lane when he lost control on the ice.
