Evelyn J. Swartz, 84, of South Whitley, passed away at 4:55 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, at her daughterâ€™s residence in Larwill.
Born June 19, 1928, in Whitley County, she was the daughter of Charles W. and Fannie R. (Hartman) Gradeless.
A lifelong resident of Whitley County, she attended school in both Etna and Wolf Lake and graduated from Columbia City High School with the class of 1946.
On July 2, 1948, she married Harold L. Swartz at St. Johnâ€™s Lutheran Church, Columbia City.
A former General Electric employee, Evelyn retired from Nutritional Research, South Whitley, in 1986 with 15 years of service. She was a member of St. Johnâ€™s Lutheran Church.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Roxanna (John) Hodges, Larwill and Debra (Veryl) Whaley of Columbia City; two sons, Ronald E. (Cindie) Swartz, Mesquite, Nev. and David A. Swartz, Columbia City; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Harold L. Swartz; five sisters, Orpha Juillerat, Edith Goings, Fern Robinette, Mildred Langohr and Flossie King.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor David Mommens officiating.
Burial will follow at Nolt Cemetery, Columbia City. Memorials may be given in memory of Mrs. Swartz to Cleveland Township Fire Department, South Whitley Library or Whitley County Humane Society.
