Elementary school travels ‘back to the future’

Pierceton Elementary School held its 2nd Annual Talent Show recently. Participating in the event were student displaying various talents. Front row, from left: Holly Branning and Leah Hampton. PIERCETON — Pierceton Elementary School held its 15th Annual Talent Show, "Back to the Future,” Friday Nov. 15.

There were 21 student acts in the categories of Vocal, Gymnastics, Instrumental and Variety. Nathan Polston, principal, continued a tradition — having the first year principal participate by reading "Thomas' Snowsuit."

Bill Rhodes, master of ceremonies, also entertained the crowd by playing the guitar, and several members of the teaching staff performed as "jailbirds" to "Jailhouse Rock."

Judges for the show were founder, former director, and retired teacher Caroline Nye, current music and art teacher at South Whitley Elementary School Trish Shoemaker, and first-time judge Pam Baker who also works in Whitko's Technology Department.

Talent Show director was Julie Underhill and assistant director was Abby Spurlin. Also helping out were teachers Patti Leppek, Hilary Stouder, Angie Speicher, and Samantha Keel.

Winning medals in each category went to:
•Vocal — 1st place Nick Meadows, 2nd place Lily Spurlin, and 3rd place Hannah Thomas and Holly Branning
•Gymnastics — 1st place Mayci Schlichter, 2nd place Mayci Schlichter and Madison Smith, and 3rd place Breanna Keirn and Allex Overmeyer
•Instrumental — 1st place Zach Stump playing the drums and 2nd place Jaycie Thomas playing the piano
•Variety — 1st place Augusta, Guinny and Adeline Garr performing a dance, 2nd place Mia Wheeler and Jaycie Thomas performing "Cups," and 3rd place Neveah Schilling and Leah Hampton telling jokes.
The winners performed in a convocation for the school Nov. 27th.

The "People's Choice Awards" were continued this year. Members of the audience voted on their favorite acts in each of the categories.
Winners were:
•Vocal — Nick Meadows
•Gymnastics — Mayci Schlichter
•Instrumental — Zack Stump
•Variety — Augusta, Guinny and Adeline Garr
Other students who performed in the talent show and received participation medals were:
•Vocal — Abi and Lane Metz, Xyla Slater, Christian Phifer, Brianna Clark, Vivian Gaerte and Jaycie Thomas
•Gymnastics — Aubrey Tenney, Aaliyah Donovan and Reagan Meadows, Breanna Keirn and Allex Overmeyer
•Variety — Chloe Hathaway and Brooke Schroeder performing a dance.
All participants received a packet of prize certificates.
