FORT WAYNE — Just as Eagles fly in a flock, the Columbia City cross country team flew in a pack Thursday at the Wayne Invitational.
The boys’ team ran in a tight pack placing five Eagles in the top 10.
Finishing within 30 seconds of one another, Brendon Zoltek led the pack in third while the rest followed: Evan Harney fifth, Adam Bernhard sixth, Trevor Maggart seventh, David Potter 10th.
“The boys have had three races in five days so we decided to do a controlled run for the first mile,” said CC coach Bob Fahl. “They did an excellent job of running and came in with a very tight pack.”
The boys finished just five points out of first-place with 31 points behind South Side’s 26.
The Lady Eagles squad had its top runners take the night off in preparation for the Marion Invitational Saturday.
Columbia City managed to finish first as a team with Heather Shew taking second overall.
Other finishers were: MacKenzie Aldrich sixth, Janie Vorndran seventh, Erica Whitehead 10th, Arielle Griswold 15th, Erin Adams 16th.
