FORT WAYNE â Though Columbia Cityâs golf team didnât win Tuesday night against undefeated Northeast Hoosier Conference foe Carroll, the Eagles posted their best score of the season. The Chargers won 151-166.
âItâs our best total of the year,â Columbia City Head Coach Andrew Thompson said. âIt was a good night for us at Autumn Ridge. We had a good showing."
Columbia Cityâs players hadnât played the course in their varsity careers, and Thompson was impressed with their performance.
Max Dryer and Dustin Parrett of Columbia City each shot 41s.
Drew Burnsworth and Trent Murphy werenât far behind, just one stroke more with 42s.
Thompson said Burnsworthâs 42 was impressive after shooting a seven and an eight on two holes, making an average of four strokes on the remaining seven holes. Eagle Derek Philbee brought in the fifth score with a 43.
Alec Ramsey of Carroll was the medalist, shooting par. Three other Charger linksters scored below 40.
The Eagles are now 1-8 and 0-4 in the NHC.
âIn the end itâs still a loss but itâs definitely a step in the right direction,â Thompson said.
