DYW program prepares for 2013 participants

COLUMBIA CITY — Cassandra Petrie, the 2011 Whitley County Junior Miss, will join Greg Hockemeyer as emcee for the Distinguished Young Woman Program/Junior Miss Saturday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m.

Hockemeyer, a Columbia City attorney, is in his 15th year of emceeing the program, which will be held in the auditorium at Columbia City High School.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students kindergarten through 12th grade.

This will be the 49th production of the local program. There will be reserved seating for parents and relatives of the program participants. Otherwise, general seating will be available.

Petrie was the final Whitley County Junior Miss prior to the national program officials changing the name to Distinguished Young Woman (DYW) at the national, state and local levels.

During her high school career at Churubusco High School, Petrie was active in the National Honor Society, New Era Show Choir, the school musicals, pep band, the Thespians and student government.
