Dorotha E. Sheets, 95, of Columbia City, died at 1:10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, in the emergency room at Parkview Whitley Hospital.
She was born Nov. 30, 1916, in Whitley County, a daughter of Ansel M. and Elma B. (Wagner) Mullett.
Her formative years were spent in Washington Township. She graduated from Washington Center High School, received her teaching certificate from Indiana University in Bloomington and her bachelors degree in education from Manchester College.
On Nov. 24, 1938, she was united in marriage to Oscar L. Sheets. They made their first home in Laud until 1943 when they moved to a farm in Washington Township. In 1972 they moved to their new home at Crooked Lake. Mr. Sheets died June 21, 1987. In 2004, Dorotha moved to Oak Pointe.
She taught students throughout Whitley County, beginning at Etna School. She transferred to Washington Center School, Jefferson Center School, Mary Raber School and lastly Marshall Memorial School.
Her memberships included Laud Christian Church, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Whitley County Retired Teachers, Colonel Augustin de La Balme Daughters of the American Revolution, Whitley County Historical Society and formerly Laud Rebekah Lodge.
Surviving relatives include two daughters, Maribelle (Reinald) Carter of Severna Park, Md. and Lois (Andrew) Blazsanyik of Vernon Hills, Ill.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother and two sisters, Harold âJackâ Mullett, Marguerite Yohe and Thora Lefever, all of Columbia City.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. The burial will be in Nolt Cemetery. The visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
