DOLLAR DISCUSSIONS: County makes 2-year CEDIT plan

October 24, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County Commissioners discussed a two-year plan for spending CEDIT funds.

Commissioners agreed to not “skimp” on maintenance for the Community Corrections Work Release building.

When air conditioning units leaked into the walls and insulation, costly repairs started accumulating.

“This is a jewel of the community,” Commissioner Don Amber said. “I don’t want to short the building.”

Courthouse maintenance was on the list and included plans to make roof repairs and install carpeting.

However, commissioners were cautious to set a precedent that CEDIT money would be a fall-back when budgets run short.

“I ask what funds are coming from the budget because I don’t want it to be interpreted that we can always take it out of CEDIT,” said Amber.
Commissioner George Schrumpf agreed.
