Despite loss, Col. City on upswing

August 21, 2013

DECATUR — Though Columbia City’s girls golf team suffered another loss Tuesday night, the Lady Eagles posted their best score in three years.

Bellmont, which is undefeated, hosted and dropped Columbia City by a 173-179 score at Cross Creek Golf Course.

Though the team went home without a win, Columbia City Head Coach Jim Thompson was very pleased with the Lady Eagles’ score.

“That’s as good as I’ve ever felt with a loss,” Thompson said. “Bellmont is a good team and we were playing on their course. All of our girls played well. We were in it until the end.”

Columbia City was led by sophomore Macenzie Lane, who scored a 40.

“Forty is a really strong score,” Thompson said. “Especially away from home on a course she’d never played before.”
