Deborah J. “Debbie” Verberkmoes, 48, of Columbia City, died at 3:18 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010 at Select Specialty Hospital Rehab, Fort Wayne where she was transferred Oct. 21 from Parkview Hospital, where she was admitted Sept. 17.
She was born Feb. 17, 1962 in Fort Wayne, a daughter of Ralph B. and Marian J. (Chandler) Weller. Her formative years were spent in the New Haven area. She graduated from Heritage High School and International Business College.
On June 14, 1985 she was united in marriage to Randall C. Verberkmoes. They have always made their home in the Columbia City area.
She was employed at North American Van Lines 17 years and most recently Feuser Contracting five years.
Her memberships included St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church where she was active in the Christ Renews His Parish Group. She was also a parent assistant and treasurer of CCHS Show Choir and a teacher’s assistant at Mary Raber Elementary School.
Surviving relatives besides her husband and parents include a son, Clayton Verberkmoes at home; and two brothers, Greg (Tina) Weller of DeWitt, Iowa and Randy (Karen) Weller of Fort Wayne.
The funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, 315 S. Line Street, Columbia City with visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church. The burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery. The visitation will also be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City with a Prayer Service at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to the Clayton Verberkmoes Education Fund.
