DEAN OF STUDENTS: WCCS approves retaining high school dean

February 20, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County Consolidated Schools Board of School Trustees unanimously approved the continuation of the dean of students position at Columbia City High School Monday.

WCCS Superintendent Dr. Pat O’Connor requested the board approve the position for an additional year.

“Based on ongoing needs of Columbia City High School, it is necessary to continue the position full-time,” she said. “He supports safety and discipline and assists with a myriad of duties and responsibilities. He is critical in supervision of all activities.”

The requested salary for the position, according to O’Connor, is approximately $47,000 per year.

Board member Deb Hiss asked if there was room for the dean of students in the budget, considering the district has not received its final figures for next year and there is concern about possible budget cuts.

When asked where the funds would come from for the salary, Business Manager Tony Zickgraf said the position was placed in the budget for the next year.

Board member Stan Meyer asked if the position would come up as a request next year as well.
