Dating violence survivor to share story

COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County’s Domestic Violence Task Force is preparing for a February event aimed at teens.

Johanna Orozco, a victim of teen dating violence, will be speaking at two area high schools as part of Teen Dating Violence Awareness month.

Local task force members have planned a series of events targeted at high school students during the month of February, one being Orozco’s appearance at both Columbia City High School and Whitko High School Feb. 5

On March 5, 2007, Johanna’s former high school boyfriend, 17-year-old Juan Ruiz, almost took her life. After being in an abusive relationship for two years with Juan, Orozco had the courage to leave him —a decision that almost killed her.
