Dancing to a different drum

February 21, 2014

Students at Northern Heights Elementary School learned a Valentine folk dance in music class. This “fun” partner dance originated in Germany. During the dance the students are able to change partners many times.

There were frequent giggles every time the dancers turned around and came face to face with their new “valentine.” The dance allowed students to show their competence with steady beat and patterned movement. Students pictured are from Deb Howard’s first grade class. From left: Jessy Stinson, Evan Jordan, Lisa Stephens and Aidenn Adams.
