Dale A. Engle, 91, of Columbia City, passed away at 7:18 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at his home. Born May 2, 1921, in Washington Township, he was the son of Haskel A. and Esther R. (Piper) Engle.
He attended Washington Grade School in Noble County for eight years and graduated from Wolf Lake High School with the class of 1941.
Dale spent his entire lifetime in Noble and Whitley Counties. His first marriage was to Norma Fowler-Schroeder on Sept. 24, 1950, and his second marriage was to Elizabeth J. Coon on March 10, 1984.
For 38 years he worked at Dana Weatherhead retiring in 1986. Dale was a member of St. Matthewâ€™s United Methodist Church, rural Columbia City, Whitley County Coon Hunterâ€™s Club and was a former member of a local square dance club.
Survivors include his children, Anita (David) Herr of Syracuse, Dennis (Heather) Engle of Savannah, Ga., Jay (Becky) Engle of Mooresville, Marlena (Glen) Fox of Fort Wayne and Albert Engle of Lebanon; one stepdaughter, Mary Jane (Ted) Crum of Whitsett, N.C.; two sisters, Barbara Herendeen of Churubusco and Dora (Niles) Stahl of Huntington; one brother, Roger (Sandy) Engle of Kendallville; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth J. Engle, one brother, Kenneth Engle and one sister, Mary Farris.
Visitation will be held on Friday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Michael Dillon officiating. Committal and burial rites will follow at 3 p.m. Saturday, at Pennville Twin Hills I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Pennville.
Memorial gifts may be given in Mr. Engleâ€™s memory to St. Matthewâ€™s United Methodist Church or the donorâ€™s choice of charity. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
