CURB THOSE FRIDGES: Col. City announces annual trash pickup

COLUMBIA CITY — The 2012 Columbia City trash pick up will be divided up into two weekends this year. The city will be divided down Main Street (Ind. 9). The west side of the city will be picked up on Saturday, June 9 starting at 6 a.m. The east side of the city will be picked up on June 16 starting at 6 a.m. All trash will be picked up at the curb side or alley.
The west side of the city includes any subdivisions that fall west of Ind. 9 (Main Street) such as Heritage Place/Chesapeake Landing, Wilkswood, Wood Dale, Deer Chase, etc. that are within city limits. The east side of the city includes subdivisions that fall east of Ind. 9 (Main Street) such as Eagle Glen, Irish Glen, Countryside Mobile Home Park and any off Hanna Street that are within city limits.
Payment in advance must be made at the Columbia City Utility Office by June 15 for the following items to be picked up: car and small truck tires tire only, a $1 fee per tire; tire with rim $5; larger tires $5 fee per tire; tractor tires $15; stoves, washers, dryers, hot water heaters, dish washers $5 fee each; refrigerators, air conditioners, freezers, appliances with Freon $10 each.
The items listed above will be picked up during the week of June 18. When advance payment is made for the above items a receipt will be given. The address and receipt holder will be added to the list for pick up. The city advises all purchasers to keep the receipt for proof of payment. Receipt holders may be asked to show this during pick up. There will be no refunds.
Car batteries will be picked up at no charge, but city hall needs to know the address where the battery can be picked up. Please call 248-5100 to be put on list for pick up.
Paint cans opened and dried will be picked up, but containers with paint in them will be left at the curb for the property owner to dispose of.
All trash must be placed out on the curb or in the alley before 6 a.m. the Saturday morning of the assigned day to assure pick up. There will be no return trips. This trash pick up is for one day only in each assigned area. The city asks for your cooperation in this year’s trash pick up.
