CRUSHED PIPE: Town leaders decide to not act on repairs

March 22, 2013

SOUTH WHITLEY — A crushed pipe, resulting in more than $1,500 in repair work, was deemed to not be the responsibility of the town by the South Whitley Town Council last week.

When a resident brought the concern to the town’s council, President Tony Starkey asked for more information.

After bills were submitted to Town Manager Dave Wilkinson and more questions were answered, the council members decided there was no liability on the town’s part to cover the repair costs.

“We shouldn’t pay for this,” said Councilman Steve Smith. “After this pipe was damaged, we should have been contacted. Then we should have done the work or have been involved.”
