CRASH: Car-train crash kills 2 in Sidney

September 3, 2013

SIDNEY — A father and his four-year-old daughter were killed in a crash in Sidney early Friday morning.

Wesley Cox, 37, was taking his daughter, Grace, from his home in Laketon to his mother’s in North Webster, when a freight train struck their car at a crossing in Sidney.

Cox’s mother was planning to watch the girl while Wesley went to work in Elkhart County, Kosciusko County Sheriff Spokesman Chad Hill said.

The Norfolk Southern train crew told officials that Cox’s vehicle came to a stop before entering the crossing, reports say.
