COLUMBIA CITYâ A woman accused of violating the terms of her probation will have the matter resolved next month.
Rita Elswick,19, was sentenced to eight years, with four to serve and four on suspended sentence, for dealing in methamphetamine.
She received this sentence in September. However, Judge James Heuer placed her on suspended sentence until March 17, 2014.
There were several reasons for this decision. Elswick is expecting a child in February.
Heuer also wished for Elswick to complete her high school education at the T.R.O.Y. Center.
She admitted to being in violation of probation. Since the school year began, Elswick only attended class at the T.R.O.Y. Center five times, according to a representative from the school who was at Whitley County Circuit Court Monday.
âWhen sheâs there, sheâs cooperative,â said the representative.
Elswick had told the court she was having difficulty attending due to transportation issues.
