COLUMBIA CITY — “It is rare for me to come in and say entirely positive things about my client.”
Those were the comments of Whitley County Public Defender Brad Voelz at the sentencing hearing for Christopher Padgett, who pleaded guilty to burglary, a Class B felony, last month.
Voelz made his comments in his testimony on Padgett’s behalf while awaiting sentencing from Circuit Court Judge James Heuer. Heuer handed down a six-year sentence for Padgett.
“The significant red flag is that he seems at high risk to re-offend,” Heuer said, as he ordered Padgett to serve the sentence locally and try to get on work release.
