COLUMBIA CITY— A Columbia City man will serve 2.5 years at the Whitley County Jail for stealing from his family.
Stephen “Nathan” Lawrence, 23, of Columbia City, pleaded guilty to theft and residential entry — both Class D felonies, and criminal mischief, a Class B misdemeanor.
He was given a sentence of 2.5 years, with two to serve in the Whitley County Jail, by Senior Judge Mike Rush at the same hearing.
Lawrence received a 2.5-year sentence for theft, which will be served concurrently with the 2.5-year sentence for residential entry and the six-month sentence for criminal mischief.
Lawrence elected to waive the pre-sentence report and chose to be sentenced at the same hearing as his guilty plea.
He was arrested Oct. 2 for stealing several items from the home of his mother and step-father.
Case reports indicate a residence on South Walnut Street, which was the home of Lawrence’s family, was broken into, and several items were missing. Those possessions included: A 46-inch television, a Kindle Fire, a Sony Blu-Ray Player, a laptop and a Samsung Galaxy Tablet.
