COLUMBIA CITY — The 2012-13 wrestling season wrapped up with one Whitley County wrestler advancing to the IHSAA State Individual Tournament finals at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, and for the three Whitley County Schools the past season is one where each saw certain measures of success.

The Churubusco team enjoyed one of its best seasons in recent memory. Highlights included a win at the Homestead Super Duals, where the Eagles downed Heritage, Snider and the host Spartans for the crown. The Eagles also were winners at the Woodlan Invitational beating seven other teams including Freemont, Wayne Trace, Woodlan, Logansport, Greenville, Bishop Luers and Bluffton. At Woodlan, the Eagles had three individual champions, Sam Siddons at 182 pounds, Jason Nicodemus at 220 pounds and Gunner Barnhart at 285 pounds.

Both of these titles gave the Eagles impetus heading into the IHSWCA Team State Dual Championships. The Eagles were invited to take part in the 1A Small School division. The Eagles downed Bremen 44-21 in the first round, Lewis Cass 45-31 in the semifinals, before falling to Adams Central in the finals, taking second place overall.
