County wrestlers one meet away from state

February 7, 2013

FORT WAYNE — There are 11 wrestlers from Whitley County schools who are one day away from their ultimate goal.

It is semi-state weekend at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum Saturday. Grapplers who managed a top-four finish at the regional meet last Saturday at Carroll earned a bid for the semi-state tournament. There will be a total of 16 wrestlers at the tournament hailing from four regionals the previous weekend. The other three regionals that feed into the Coliseum are the tournaments that were held at Goshen, Jay County and Peru.

Representing Columbia City will be Hunter Langeloh, Alan Trabert and Russell Hazelet. From Churubusco, Chase Downing, Brandon Wormcastle, Brian Richardson and Jason Nicodemus will be competing. Greg Newman, Lane Wolf, Colton LeTourneau and Kuyler Bailey will represent Whitko at the semi-state tournament.

Saturday’s semi-state will begin at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum at 9 a.m. The top four wrestlers of 16 in each weight class will advance to the state tournament, which will be held Friday, Feb. 15 and Saturday, Feb. 16 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
