October 11, 2010

The Indiana high school volleyball sectional pairings are out and for two Whitley County rivals, it starts off by getting a shot at each other.
Monday, the Indiana High School Athletic Association drew up the four-class brackets for 397 schools across 64 sectional sites.
The opening round of the tournament gets underway next week Oct. 19 through Oct. 23.
Two of the county’s three high school teams will square off in the first round.
The class 3A sectional at Tippecanoe Valley features both Columbia City and Whitko. The two rivals separated by 12 miles will travel to Valley to face one another in the third match of the postseason tournament.
Columbia City needed just three games to get by Whitko Sept. 27 in a final 25-14, 25-17, 25-8.
The winner will move on to the semifinal round against either Wawasee or West Noble. Defending champion NorthWood will play Lakeland in the first match of the sectional with Valley holding a bye in the first round.
Churubusco heads to a class 2A Garrett sectional with the tough task of taking on a Prairie Heights team with a 17-6 record.
The Lady Panthers beat the Lady Eagles in the regular season 25-17, 25-12, 25-16.
The winner of the Eagles-Panthers match-up will see either defending champion Central Noble or its first round opponent Fremont.
Garrett and Eastside will play a semifinal match against one another on the other side of the bracket.
