County rivalries heat up this weekend

November 15, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY— Basketball season is just beginning for high school girls around the state of Indiana this week.

Despite it being so early in the season, the battle for Whitley County supremacy will be waged this weekend.

Whitko will host Columbia City Friday night at 8 p.m. The Lady Wildcats will then turn around and travel to the other Whitley County high school — Churubusco, for a game Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.

The contests will somewhat determine the best team in the county, but not completely, as Columbia City does not play ’Busco this year.

Friday’s game against Whitko will be the first of the year for Columbia City. Churubusco and the Lady Wildcats both opened Tuesday. Whitko knocked down Central Noble, 66-44, and ’Busco fell to Garrett, 69-40.

Before the season, Whitko Head Coach Brandon Bradley said he was not looking forward to playing two games in two days.
