- Summer Life in Whitley County
COLUMBIA CITY â Melissa DeWitt, 28 of Columbia City, describes herself as âan old soul,â and is the owner of Melissa DeWitt Photography. Missy, as she is most commonly known, is a mom to two girls, Gracie, 3, and Selah, 2, along with a stepson, Hayden, 7.
She is married to Tony and the two met in high school when she was a freshman. Now, 14 years later, she said âI couldnât ask for a better husband. Heâs supported and encouraged me as I built my photography business.â
Q: Are you originally from Whitley County?
A: âMy parents moved to Whitley County when I was about three years old due to my dadâs career. I am originally from a small town in Pennsylvania called Donora. It is near Pittsburgh. Go Steelers!â
Q: How are you unique?
A: âMy husband and I always joke that we are not normal, and as a matter of fact, I donât want to be normal. That would be boring. I love the fact that I can be creative whenever I want, and I am not afraid to put my emotion into my art. It is what makes my art mine, and makes my art unique. No one can take yourself away from you, which is why it is so important to be yourself.â
Q: Who is your hero?
A: âI can say I have one person that comes to mind that has shaped my thoughts and heart â my grandmother, whom I call Mumal. She has taught me how to love everyone, how to listen, how to believe in God, and in Jesus Christ my Savoir. She has showed me kindness and unconditional love that I will never forget and cherish forever. John Gregory is another man who changed my life. This man was simple, yet a strong-willed person who had a heart of gold for Jesus. Listening to this man speak was life changing and filled my life with many values.â
