COLUMBIA CITY — Their bats hit hard and often on a sunny Monday evening in the City, as the Columbia City Eagles took a key Northeast Hoosier Conference victory over the visiting Bellmont Braves 18-4 to stay perfect in the NHC in baseball Monday.

The Eagles got the win via the 10-run rule after leading by 14 runs at the conclusion of the top half of the fifth inning.

Columbia City pummeled Bellmont’s pitchers for 18 runs on 13 hits, five of them for extra bases, and five walks.

Not a single Eagle batter struck out in the contest.

“We were able to jump on some pitches in some big spots, took advantage of some of their mistakes pitching, and we were able to put up some runs to get another win in the conference,” said Columbia City Head Coach Zac Bireley.

The Eagles improve to 6-2 on the year and 2-0 in the NHC.

The Eagles’ starting pitcher, senior Jordan Bickle, had plenty of run support. Still, he kept the Braves’ bats at bay, limiting Bellmont to four runs, all earned, on eight hits and two walks, while fanning seven. After earning the win, he improved to 2-0 on the season.
