NORTH MANCHESTER — The county golf match Tuesday was everything it was intended to be.

All three schools were seperated by six strokes, with Columbia City’s squad, led by three freshmen, taking the win.

“It turned out to be a real competitive match,” Columbia City Head Coach Andrew Thompson said. “I didn’t know what to expect, it was only our second night on a golf course.”

Many area golf teams have been forced to practice inside due to weather conditions.

“We put them right into the frying pan,” Thompson said.

The Eagles were led by Tyler Green, who scored a 39. Fellow freshmen Cameron Slavich and Spencer Klimek and scored a 42 and 43, respectively, helping Columbia City to its 170 score.

“It was their first high school match, you have to credit them for an outstanding effort,” Thompson said.

Whitko finished with a 175, and Churubusco was just one stroke away, scoring a 176.
