KENDALLVILLE — With an undefeated Northeast Hoosier Conference record on the line and perennial baseball powerhouse Carroll on the schedule for Thursday, Columbia City was on its way to a trap game in Kendallville against East Noble Tuesday night.

However, the Eagles stayed vigilant, taking down the Knights 6-1 behind a complete game by pitcher Ryan Kerschner.

Kerschner only gave up two hits, while striking out five, allowing one earned run and walking two in seven innings.

“Biggest part of the game was Kerschner on the mound,” said Columbia City Head Coach Zac Bireley. “He threw well Friday night, and he came tonight back right where he left off.”

Some strong performances on offense for Columbia City came from left fielder Andrew Biggs, designated hitter Austin McCormick and first baseman Zac Steinke.

Biggs reached base in each of his four plate appearances, three times on a hit and the fourth on a walk. He also collected an RBI. McCormick drew three walks to improve his season on-base percentage. Steinke brought his big boy bat Tuesday and smacked a two-run home run in the fifth inning, his second of the season.
