Col.City suffers injury, 79-7 NHC loss

September 29, 2012

KENDALLVILLE — The Columbia City football team’s roller coaster season fell off a cliff against Northeast Hoosier Conference foe, the East Noble Knights Friday. A week after the Eagles came within a whisker of upsetting undefeated New Haven, Columbia City ended up on the wrong end of a 79-7 shellacking by the Knights.

With the Columbia City sidelines bearing a strong resemblance to an orthopedics ward, the Eagles were forced into using several players with almost no varsity experience to fill out an injury depleted receiving corps and defensive backfield.

“We didn’t handle missing our injured guys very well,” said Eagle Head Coach Randy Hudgins. “We had to have some kids step in,” said Eagle coach Randy Hudgins. “And to be fair to them we asked an awful lot of them tonight. We put them in some positions where it was hard for them to be successful.”

The Eagles fall to 3-4 on the season and 2-3 in the Northeast Hoosier Conference. Columbia City returns home next Friday to face the 5-2 Carroll Chargers.
