Col. City tennis tops Whitko

May 12, 2014

Columbia City’s girls tennis team traveled to Whitko Friday night to beat its county rivals 4-1.

The Lady Eagles played five matches in five nights.

“Some of the girls played more than 14 hours in those five nights,” said Columbia City Head Coach Katie Myers. “I’m very proud of the girls.

“Tennis is a sport where there’s no substitutions, and even if the girls are exhausted, they still have to go out and give it their all each night.”

Columbia City finished the long week 4-1 and 3-0 in the Northeast Hoosier Conference.

Whitko picked up its lone win in No. 1 singles, as Abby Marshall beat Maddy Minnick 6-0, 6-2.
