COLUMBIA CITY â€” The Lady Eagle tennis team started their season 1-0 Tuesday with a 3-2 win over the Norwell Lady Knights.
In No. 1 singles, Columbia Cityâ€™s Celine Rongos defeated Brittany Barger 6-1, 6-1. Lady Knight and No. 2 singles winner Lyndsey Havener beat Kennedy Slavicek, 6-3, 6-0.
Rounding out the singles action were the No. 3s. Alaina Beckner lost to Norwellâ€™s Rachel Phillips, 6-2, 6-4.
Both doubles team for Columbia City came away victorious. Breanna Hicks and Sydney Ford defeated Jessica Rupright and Addie Williams (6-0, 6-1). Lady Eagles Blake Farber and Macie Hinen (No. 2) won over Taylor Sprinkle and Laken Chaney.
â€™Busco: Hosting Fort Wayne Northrop, the Churubusco Lady Eagle tennis team moved to 0-2 on the year, losing by shutout to the Lady Bruins.
No. 1 single Morgan Young took Sabrina Ngo the distance before losing 6-4, 6-2, 1-6.
Nikkie Essingler, Lady Eaglesâ€™ No. 2, lost 6-2, 6-3 to Melissa Maggard. Kayleen Mitchell, No. 3, went down in straight sets, also 6-3, 6-2.
The No. 1 doubles team of Madi Cook and Maggie Kitt were shut out, 6-0, 6-0.
Aaliyah Hensinger and Katee Baxter also fell in singles, 6-0, 6-1. Liz Brooks, Alexis Helbert and Elaine Pence, junior varsity Lady Eagles, lost their respective sets, as did the JV team of Brooks and Pence.
The day ended with a final score of 5-0 in favor of the Lady Bruins.
