November 29, 2013

Fort Wayne — Columbia City’s Lady Eagle basketball team traveled to Fort Wayne to take on the 1-3 North Side Lady Redskins with the hopes of getting back in the win column following a heartbreaking home overtime loss to undefeated Leo.

The Lady Eagles used a pressure perimeter defense to negate the Lady Redskins main offensive threats and balanced scoring to down the host Lady Redskins by a 57-36 score Friday night.

“We knew going in that they didn’t have a tough post presence,” said Lady Eagle Head Coach Amy Shearer, “But we knew that they had two kids who could really put some points up on the board so we knew we had to put the clamps down on them.”

For most of the game, the visiting Lady Eagles did just that, limiting Sierra Miranda to 4-of-14 shooting from the field. Miranda totaled 14 points including a game opening three that put the hosts up 3-0 to start the contest, but four of those points came from the free throw line.
