Col. City RB/LB Dailey’s condition upgraded to fair

August 27, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — Sam Dailey’s condition has been upgraded to “fair” Monday.

Dailey, a running back and linebacker for Columbia City’s football team, was injured at Friday night’s football game at Warsaw after he made a tackle.

According to the Indiana High School Athletic Association, Columbia City High School is investigating what happened to cause the injury.

The injury is considered “catastrophic,” meaning expenses will exceed $25,000 and the IHSAA will take care of the medical costs.

Reports say Dailey suffered an acute head injury, causing a blood clot to form on his brain — he has had multiple surgeries at Lutheran Hospital, in Fort Wayne, to reduce swelling and pressure.

Reports say Dailey was in a drug-induced coma through most of the weekend.

Dailey was named captain last week.

Dailey’s cousins designed T-shirts that will be sold at Friday night’s home-opener against Whitko.

Money from the shirts will benefit Dailey and his family.

Officials from Whitley County Consolidated Schools declined to comment.
