March 6, 2014

Columbia City’s Brachen Hazen goes up for a shot against Bellmont in Tuesday’s sectional opener.

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s boys basketball team is working for its first sectional title since 2011, advancing to the semi-final game Friday night in the Norwell Sectional against Mississinewa.

The Indians are 13-7, and finished off the regular season with a four-game win streak, topped off with a victory over New Castle, 51-43.

“They had a really good year,” Columbia City Head Coach Chris Benedict said.

Columbia City fell to New Castle in the holiday tournament, 52-47, but Benedict said the Eagles have improved since that game.
