CLAYPOOL — A Columbia City man is behind bars after allegedly molesting a 3-year-old Claypool girl.

Zachary Robert Roderick Walsh allegedly confessed to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department that he touched a young girl inappropriately.

He was preliminarily charged with child molesting and is currently being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on a $100,000 bond.

According to a press release by the Kosciusko Sheriff’s Department, KCSD deputies responded to a Claypool residence Monday at approximately 11:30 p.m. in regards to a possible molestation incident.

Officers arrived and met with the mother of the 3-year-old girl, who explained that a family friend had stopped by to visit, bringing her brother (Walsh) along with her.

The mother said both women traveled to Warsaw to go shopping, leaving Walsh to babysit the 3-year-old and her 4-year-old sister while they were gone.

When the mother returned, she told police she thought the 3-year-old child had been inappropriately touched in the genital area by Walsh.

According to the press release, officers interviewed the child who described the incident that allegedly happened in a bedroom.

The 3-year-old told police her sister was not present.

Deputies transported Walsh to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, where he was interviewed about the incident.

Walsh allegedly confessed to touching the girl in her genital area.
The Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office advises that the defendant’s charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
