COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s boys golf team played through wet, rainy, 58-degree conditions Tuesday night in its Northeast Hoosier Conference Opener against Bellmont.
At an already saturated Eagle Glen Golf Course in Columbia City, the Eagles fell to their conference opponent, 172-177, on the front nine.
The Braves were paced by Chase Ellsworth, who scored a 37 despite the poor conditions.
Columbia City was led by freshmen Tyler Green and Spencer Klimek, who shot 42 and 43, respectively.
The Eagles struggled at the ninth hole. While Bellmont had a collective score of 25 between its five players on the hole, Columbia City had a combined score of 32 — a seven-stroke difference.
The Eagles lost by five strokes.
“We had a lot of mistakes that cost us the match,” Columbia City Head Coach Andrew Thompson said.
Behind Green and Klimek for Columbia City was Cameron Slavich who shot a 45.
