Col. City clasps county crown

December 5, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — Two Eagle wrestling squads squared off Wednesday night at the Donald S. Weeks Gymnasium for Whitley County bragging rights and both the Olde Golden Eagle Trophy and the Blake-Jones-Koontz Cup, as wrestling supremacy in Whitley County was on the line.

Columbia City, fresh off a victory over Whitko at the Wawasee Invitational, looked to defend last year’s title. Standing in the Eagles’ way was a veteran Churubusco team looking to avenge last year’s narrow, home loss to Columbia City.

Churubusco started and ended the match with a win, but Columbia City used eight pinfall victories, including three come-from-behind falls, to score a 48-25 triumph.
