Col. City beats Warsaw for first time in years

COLUMBIA CITY — More than 10 years in the making, Columbia City’s girls basketball team finally beat its rival to the west — Warsaw, Tuesday night, 38-24.

Records that date back to the 2000-01 season show that the Lady Eagles haven’t defeated the Lady Tigers in at least 13 years.

“I know it has been quite some time since we’ve beaten them,” Columbia City Head Coach Amy Shearer said. “Warsaw has a great program. It was a good win for us.”

Not only did the Lady Eagles beat Warsaw, they did it with several underclassmen playing substantial minutes.

With one Columbia City starter, Baily Rentschler, out of the game from an injury last week, and two starters in foul trouble, underclassmen worked to fill the gaps in the Lady Eagles’ lineup.
