AUBURN â€” Columbia Cityâ€™s baseball team held on to a 6-4 lead to beat Snider in the opening round of sectionals at DeKalb Thursday.
After a 6-3 lead, the Panthers threatened the Eagles with a run in the seventh inning, a base runner on second and the tying run at the plate.
Columbia City held on to get the next three batters out and win, 6-4.
Jordan Bickle opened the second frame with a home run. Snider led off the bottom of the second with a home run to tie the score at one.
Columbia Cityâ€™s Jacob Johnson scored in the top of the third off a double by Rehrer. Slavich knocked in Rehrer with a single.
Lamle hit a sacrifice fly-ball to score Slavich and the top half of the stanza ended with a 4-1 score.
Snider tacked on two more runs to make the score 4-3 going into the top of the seventh frame. Reed got two RBIs after hitting in Slavich and Travis Herbst to take a 6-3 lead.
Snider threatened the Eaglesâ€™ lead in the bottom of the final inning, scoring a run with no outs.
Pitcher Jordan Bickle took the mound for the save and retired the final Panther batters to win 6-4.
The Eagles face DeKalb Monday at 12:30 p.m. in Auburn.View more articles in:
