Coaching change-ups becoming a trend in football
COLUMBIA CITY — With the retiring of Churubusco’s Lee Etzler and Whitko’s Wayne Swender this season, at age 31 Randy Hudgins is most veteran football coach in Whitley County — a concept that seems almost unimaginable in a sport that formerly relied on tradition and consistency. “Unfortunately it is kind of a trend now — there are quite a bit of coaching changes,” Hudgins said.Hudgins (25-20) is prepping for the start of his fifth season with the Eagles.“It’s kind of odd,” Hudgins said. “When I coached my first game here I was 26 and there were two veteran coaches with Lee and Wayne.”Etzler stepped down after 11 years as ’Busco’s head coach.
