COLUMBIA CITY â€” High school softball is a game dominated by pitching and solid defense behind the plate.
When a team loses its ace All-Northeast Hoosier Conference pitcher and its All-NHC catcher, normally the other teams in the conference would be licking their chops in anticipation of this yearâ€™s season.
But that may not be the case this year, as the Columbia City squad still returns a senior-laden team full of experience.
Last year, the Lady Eagles posted a 19-9 overall record including a 7-0 sweep of the Northeast Hoosier Conference.
Graduation took the number one battery of pitcher Cassie Vodde and catcher Megan Giffin, both of whom posted All-NHC seasons.
â€śItâ€™s hard to replace the experience of those two,â€ť said Eagle head coach Steve Cox, â€śBut we have some kids who are really stepping up to fill the positions.â€ť
