CIRCUIT COURT: Sargent receives sentence

February 5, 2013

COLUMBIA CITY — A Churubusco man received his sentence in Whitley County Circuit Court Monday for sexual misconduct with a minor.

Christopher Sargent, 23, of Churubusco, pleaded guilty to the charge, which is a Class B felony. He had also violated his probation. Sargent had been on probation for charges dating back to 2011, when he was arrested for possession a bomb.

Circuit Court Judge James Heuer said he believed the plea was an appropriate resolution to the case.

He sentenced Sargent to a total of 12.5 years, with 2.5 of those years suspended — to be served with the Indiana Department of Corrections.
Ten of the years were part of the sexual misconduct with a minor charge and 2.5 years were for the probation violation.

Sargent was arrested in July of 2012 for having sex with a minor who was at least 14 but not yet 16. He was credited with 195 days already served for his sentence.
