Churubusco grapplers top Whitko, 57-19

CHURUBUSCO â€” In the final regular season match, two Whitley County wrestling teams squared off on Churubuscoâ€™s Senior Night.
The host Eagles used an advantage in the upper weight classes to build a lead on their way to a 57-19 win over the visiting Whitko Wildcats.
With both teams heading into their conference tournaments Saturday, both the Eagles and the Wildcats were looking to establish some momentum.
Bouts started at 126 pounds, with Eagle sophomore Chase Downing scoring a pinfall win over Whitkoâ€™s Evan Cozad at the 1:02 mark of the first period, putting the hosts up 6-0.
The Wildcats came back at 132 pounds with senior Colton LeTourneau holding on for a 7-6 decision over Churubuscoâ€™s Shane Shroyer to close the gap to 6-3.
Churubuscoâ€™s Lyle McParlan took an early 4-1 lead over Whitkoâ€™s Kuyler Bailey on his way to a 5-1 decision at 138 pounds.
Churubusco senior Brandon Wormcastle scored a first-period pin over Whitkoâ€™s Erick Loe to put the Eagles up 15-3. The Eagles Joey Heaton followed, leading 7-1 going into the third period of his match with Whitkoâ€™s Tarren Prater, when he scored the pin at the 5:22 mark.
The Eaglesâ€™ Travis Glick followed with a first-period pinfall win over the Wildcatsâ€™ Zach Baughman to push the Churubusco lead to 27-3.
