Charleene Magdalene Heintzelman, 93, of Columbia City, passed away at 1:25 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, at Millerâ€™s Merry Manor, Columbia City, where she had been a resident for the past three months.
She was born June 27, 1920, in Jefferson Township, a daughter of the late Earl S. and Laura (Lower) Kaufman. She graduated from Jefferson Center High School in 1938.
On June 14, 1941, she was united in marriage to Ross V. Heintzelman. They made their home in Jefferson Township. Mr. Heintzelman died April 3, 2006.
A member of the Laud Christian Church, she participated in many womenâ€™s groups. She taught Sunday school and helped at Vacation Bible School.
She was a member of Jefferson Homemakers Club for 70 years. She is in the Indiana High School Basketball Hall of Fame along with Lois Ward Mote as cheerleaders for Jefferson Center High School.
She was a full-time homemaker raising their children. She loved and enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and her many friends. An avid gardener, she raised both flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed the seasons of the year.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Larry (Kathy) Heintzelman of Grand Rapids, Mich., Ed (Ro) Heintzelman of Columbia City; a daughter, Joyce (Eric) Houser of Larwill; grandsons, Heath and Seth Heintzelman of Cottage Grove, Ore. and Levi Heintzelman of Houston, Texas and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard â€śDickâ€ť Heintzelman and a sister, Beatrice Viola Linvill
A private family service will be held at a later date.
