CHALLENGE ACCEPTED: Healthier options help hinder holiday weight gain
COLUMBIA CITY — Eggnog, pumpkin pie, cookies and candies — it’s enough to make anyone’s mouth water. The holiday season isn’t complete without the tasty treats that come with parties and get-togethers. However, the weight gained during the months of November and December can make some don more than their gay apparel. To combat bulging bellies, Whitley County YMCA is offering a holiday edition of its annual challenge, Whitley Weighs In. The holiday weigh in is a shorter version of the traditional Whitley Weighs In challenge. Starting Tuesday and on through Tuesday, Jan. 8, the YMCA can help fight off those holiday pounds. To join in the Whitley Weighs In Holiday Edition, participants must stop by the Whitley County YMCA Tuesday from 7 to 9 a.m. or 4 to 6 p.m. to have an official weigh in.The challenge requires participants to come back to the YMCA Jan. 8 from 7 to 9 a.m. or 4 to 6 p.m. for a final weigh in.Participants do not have to be a member of the YMCA to join the challenge. In fact, those who are not members will get the chance to utilize the YMCA facility as part of the program. The cost to participate is $5 and the individual with the highest weight loss percentage will win a three-month YMCA membership.Jodi Parnell, a personal trainer and lifestyle and weight management coach for the YMCA, said, “The holiday challenge would be ideal for anyone who is hoping to manage their weight and keep themselves accountable during the holiday season."For a more in depth look at this story, see the Nov. 19 issue of The Post and Mail.
