COLUMBIA CITY — Giving back to the community where she’s grown up is what propelled Cari Wells, of Columbia City, to be the 2013-14 campaign chair for the United Way of Whitley County.

“I care about this community and want to see it continue to be great,” Wells said. “The United Way does so much to improve the lives of those in our county. It seemed like a logical way for me to serve the community.”

With the United Way’s Day of Caring having officially launched the fundraising campaign in September, Wells is hard at work developing relationships with corporations and business throughout the county.

“Although we are grateful to have partnerships with some of the larger companies in our county, financially contributing to the campaign doesn’t have to be just from businesses,” Wells said. “I want to challenge those who have never given to the United Way to do so this year. Even small donations make a difference. Every dollar adds up.”

A collective goal of $225,000 is the mark Wells and a team of volunteers are working to reach this campaign year.

Last year, the fundraising efforts generated more than $200,000, surpassing a goal of $190,000.
