WOODLAN — Churubusco’s wrestling team took home the invitational title from Woodlan Saturday.

The Eagles claimed the victory by scoring 233 points with weight-class wins from Jason Nicodemus, Sam Siddons and Gunner Barnhart.

’Busco was 24 points ahead of the second-place team and Northeast Corner Conference foe Fremont.

Churubusco head coach Sam Riesen said ’Busco has finished at the top of the pack for the last several years, and he’s glad the team was able to pick up a win this season.

Barnhart won the championship round in the heavyweight class by pinfall at 1:18 over Woodlan’s Garrett Van Brocklin.

Nicodemus pinned Nick Woodruff of Greenville at 3:15, and Siddons also won by pinfall, topping Brady Elliot of Fremont at 2:56.

Joey Heaton lost a 3-1 decision in overtime to Fremont’s Brad Owen.
Chae Downing also last in a close match, falling to Sam Lovejoy of Bishop Luers by a 3-1 decision.

Brandon Wormcastle was pinned at 54 seconds by Woodlan’s Trey Delagrange and Shane Shroyer fell by major decision to Fremont’s Tylor Willms, 10-1.

The Eagles are prepping for NECC play this weekend, followed by sectionals at Carroll next Saturday.
