CHURUBUSCO — The season was 2005 when Churubusco girls’ basketball last achieved what it did Saturday night.
With a 45-31 win over well-known North East Corner Conference rival Central Noble, the Lady Eagles turned the tide in a program that has struggled in recent years.
Behind Morgan Young’s team-high 15 points, ’Busco (5-13, 2-7) picked up its most wins in six seasons.
Prior to this season, Churubusco had reached four wins three out of the last four seasons. Not since 2005 had the Lady Eagles won more games going 7-15.
It was the same season ’Busco also won back-to-back games. That was until Saturday.
After beating up on South Adams Thursday night 41-18, the Lady Eagles put together their first winning streak in more than six years with the help of an early 24-19 win at halftime.
The Eagles forced Central Noble into 24 turnovers.
Churubusco shot 33 percent from the field (17-for-51) while holding the Cougars to just 28 percent (9-for-32).
A six-point lead after three quarters had Churubusco pull away handily in the fourth quarter. The Lady Eagles outscored Central Noble 17-7 in the final period with the help of nine different ’Busco players getting in the scoring column.
After Young, Nicole Wormcastle had seven points.
