’Busco tennis earns second win

Churubusco’s girls tennis team picked up its second win of the season, beating West Noble Thursday night, 3-2.

Churubusco sophomore Audrey Giercher led the Lady Eagles with a win in No. 1 singles, beating West Noble’s Haley Teel 6-1, 6-3. In No. 3 singles, Cheyenne Conner won a close, 6-4, 6-3 match over West Noble’s Josie Gibbons.

The No. 2 doubles team was the deciding factor in the match, play a long battle. After winning the first set 6-4, the second set went on to a tie-breaker.

The Lady Eagle squad of Maggie Kitt and Nikki Esslinger won 7-6 (7-3) to help Churubusco to the win.

Falling in Thursday’s match was Camille Cseri in No. 2 singles, first by a 4-1 score and the second set was lost by default.

In No. 1 doubles, Katee Baxter and Aaliyah Hensinger lost to the strong West Noble pair of Brett Coverstone and Rachel Schermerhorn, 6-1, 6-0.
In junior varsity action, Churubusco winners include Madi Cook, Anna Bulmahn and Kristen Krill in singles, and the doubles pair of Kaley Scott and Kayla Masco.
